How to Make Money Blogging in 2018

Have you ever wanted to make money blogging?

If so, you're in luck! In today's blog post, I'm going to share with you how you can start making money with a blog today.

Before I get into how to make money blogging,  I'd like to share a background story about how I made the decision to start a blog.

Like so many other aspiring entrepreneurs or bloggers, my sole reason for wanting to start making money blogging originated from me no longer wanting to work a job or a 9 to 5.

I no longer wanted to slave away at some corporation working hard every day to make someone else who decided to follow their dreams rich.

I no longer desired to work with people I didn’t like. I no longer wanted to work harder for someone else than I did myself.

I no longer wanted to only be paid the very minimum while the CEO made millions off my hard work.

I no longer wanted to miss spending time with family and loved ones because I was spending all my time at work. I hated waking up at 3:30, commuting to work and I hated working 50-70 hrs. per week and still struggled to make ends meet.

I also no longer wanted to be a prisoner to the rat-race. I wanted an escape. I wanted freedom.

Time freedom and financial freedom. I took inventory of the things I was good at and decided that writing and blogging was one of those things I wanted to do.

The only problem was, I  needed to figure out how I was going replace my job income to be able to sustain myself, cover my monthly expenses and have some extra funds to do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted.

Can you relate to this story?

Although I am not new to blogging, this is the first time that I am taking it seriously and making it into a full-time business.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve been an entrepreneur part-time while working a full-time job. So many times, I wanted to make the leap and just go all in, but something was holding me back.

I’ve done everything under the sun from network marketing, affiliate marketing, YouTube videos, article marketing, coaching, courses. You name it, I’ve done it.

I had started a coaching company back in 2015 and I got some success with it, but after a while, I found that the way I was doing my business wasn’t going to sustain me long term and so I continued to work my full-time job, still desiring to be a full-time entrepreneur.

It wasn’t until this year (2018) that I decided that I was going to finally stop being afraid and just take the leap.

I was working two jobs just to pay the bills and I realized after being burnt out every day, physically exhausted from work and not even having enough time for myself to think properly, I decided to quit both jobs and start blogging full-time.

This blog isn’t new. I’ve had this blog for 5 years. However, out of all the blogs I’ve created over the years, this is the blog that has garnered the most traffic.

I saw an opportunity to build it up sharing information about what I’ve learned in my entrepreneurial journey thus far.

I wanted to share this background story because there are so many people out there who are making claims of earning so much money blogging and working from home, but never really sharing HOW they are doing it.

I created this blog and this post specifically to share my journey in blogging and how I’ll be building it up to earn a full-time income from home.

So, in other words, I am starting from scratch! But because I already have experience of how to make money from home, I’m going to share with you some ways I’ve learned to monetize (make money) blogging and how you can start too!

How to Start a Blog

First things first!

The first thing you need to ask yourself is, “What do I want to blog about?” Don’t blog about something just because you think it’s going to make you money quickly.

Blog about something that you’re truly passionate about and that you truly love.

For me, I love everything about working from home, being an entrepreneur and starting a business. (That’s part of the reason why I started a coaching business as a business coach).

Here are a few other things you need to start a blog:

1. Blog topic or niche. Blog about something you LOVE and are PASSIONATE about!
Your passion can be anything! Just make sure it’s something that you want to blog about.
There is nothing worse than creating a blog and then later abandoning it because you don’t really like the topic.
 2. A website or blogging platforms like Blogger or WordPress. Most people recommend WordPress.

I read an article yesterday that WordPress makes up about 30% of all the websites on the internet!

There are over 1 billion people on the internet so that so a HUGE deal!

3. Domain name. A domain name is the website address for your blog.  When you decide on what you want to blog about, you’re going to need a domain name that matches your passion.

4. Hosting. Although right now Google is hosting my blog on blogger, in the next coming days, I’ll be getting hosting from Bluehost

Of all the hosting options I’ve come across, Bluehost is the most reasonable and affordable option for me.

Their hosting is only $3.95 per month! Plus, you can get your WordPress account and a free domain name at the same time too! You can sign up for Bluehost HERE!.

Once you’ve got your blog niche, domain name, and web hosting setup, now it’s time to get started blogging!

Your first post can be an introduction to your blog about what you are going to be talking about or your first post can be about your topic and some value content connected to it.

Now we are on to the JUICY part! How to make money with your blog! The programs and recommendations I’ll be sharing with you below are programs and options that I use and have used in the past.

I’ve done a tremendous amount of research searching for only the BEST ways to make money with a blog.

Create an Online Course

Creating an online course is a wonderful way to make money blogging. You can create a course about virtually ANYTHING.

If you have experience in a specific field or if you know a significant amount of information on a topic you love, then creating a course is one way to bring in some extra coins!

I’m no stranger to creating online courses. In fact, the first course I created was Divine Prosperity

This course was/is a 7-day course that teaches you how to develop the right mindset to manifest money and attract abundance.

It’s also a great course that teaches you how to develop the right mindset to generate an income from home.

I don’t say this course is amazing because I created it, I say that because of the students that I had who took this course and who were able to transform their mindset in a very short amount of time.

From getting accepted into a Ph.D. program to getting approved for a new apartment, and even receiving an unexpected check in the mail, my students have gotten tremendous results with this course. You can learn more about the Divine Prosperity Course by clicking HERE!

There are many platforms you can use to create an online course. For my Divine Prosperity course, I used Teachable. In a future post, I’ll be sharing step by step on how to create a course and how to make money with online courses.

Coaching or Consulting

Starting a coaching business is another terrific way to make money blogging. You can coach people on the topics you blog about or you can do coaching in an area that you have expertise in.

When I started my coaching business in 2015, I started off as a spiritual intuitive coach.

As my client base changed, I ventured into business coaching, which brought in more income for me and my business.

I taught my clients how to create courses, how to generate more sales, customers, and clients, how to create the right mindset for entrepreneurship and much, much more.

If you’d like to work with me or learn how I can help you start or grow your business, start or grow your blog, you can fill out the client questionnaire by going HERE.

Affiliate Marketing

Most newbie bloggers start out with affiliate marketing because it is one of the easiest ways to generate income and make money blogging fast. Every company you can think of, (even the ones you buy from regularly) has some type of affiliate program.
When you become an affiliate of a company, you are basically driving traffic, leads, customers, and sales to them for a commission. Each company has different commission structures so make sure you check them out before you agree to become an affiliate.

I’m currently using a combination of a few affiliate programs, one of them is Shareasale. You can sign up to become a Shareasale affiliate by clicking HERE!

Ads

Did you know Google will pay you to post ads on your blog? With the Google Adsense program, you can post ads on your blog or website and when someone clicks on an ad, you earn a percentage of the advertising fee.

So far, I’ve earned $47.01 from Google AdSense. I know I can scale it up to be more over time. I will keep you updated on how I am working on increasing revenue from my blog.

I just recently signed up for Chitika which is like Google AdSense.

Sponsored Ads

Sponsored ads are ads that people pay you to run on your site based on your niche, topic or audience.

I’ve been seeing more of this mostly on Instagram, but I know that a lot of well-known bloggers with authority use this technique as well.

My blog isn’t known well enough yet, but this is probably something I’ll be experimenting with in the future.

Create a Membership Site

Creating a membership site is another great way to make money blogging. If you have premium content that you only want to offer to your paid clients, customers or students, then having a membership site is a great option.

Not only will you make money, but if you set it up the right way, it becomes a passive income stream and residual income. Even if you don’t blog, you’ll still be making money through your blog content.

Become a Freelancer

If you have a specialized skill such as creating websites, graphic design, or social media marketing then you can become a freelancer.

These skills are in demand right now with the rise of more people wanting to start an online business. There are a few places you can get started with. One of them I recommend and have used to earn money is Fiverr.

With Fiverr, you can sell your services starting at $5. As you get more sales and positive reviews, you will unlock levels that will allow you to charge more money for your services.

Go to Fiverr and check out what the most in-demand services are and see if you can offer them at a more affordable rate to build up clientele.

You can also become a freelance writer. When I started online years ago, one of the first things I did to make money blogging was writing articles for articles sites like Hubpages, Squidoo, and Yahoo.

Write an eBook

A fantastic way to earn passive income and make money blogging is by writing, publishing and selling an eBook.

I’ve written two books that I published on Amazon and still earn income from to this day. You can check them out by going to Amazon.

Open an E-Commerce Store

Although E-Commerce isn’t a new concept, it’s a hot and trendy topic right now. Dropshipping with Shopify is a HOT market right now.

Opening an E-Commerce Store will help you to add an additional income stream to what you’re already doing and it’s also another way you can brand yourself and your business.

Your E-commerce store doesn’t necessarily have to sell dog tags for necklaces. You can use your store to sell services or even to have a web presence for merchandise you create.

You can brand yourself by selling T-shirts, hats, mugs, stationery, bags etc. all branded with your name, logo or brand. The options are endless when it comes to opening an E-Commerce Store.

If you already have a store, then you can use this great Alidropship tool to grow your dropshipping business by 2000%!

Sell a Service

If you have a service you can sell through your blog such as done for you blog templates or done for you article writing, then that would be a wonderful way to make money blogging.

For example, if you have a blog sharing vegan recipes, you can create a meal planning service that ships out groceries to your clients on a weekly or monthly basis.

This service will save time for busy moms or working professionals who don’t have much time to shop after they get off work, go get the kids, do homework and cook dinner.

Any service that will make your student, client or customer feel relieved or solve a problem is a winner!

I hope you found this list of 9 ways to make money blogging to be extremely valuable, helpful and useful. Comment and share if you’d like more blog posts like this!
